How to Find the Best Pergola Kit for You…

This side-by-side comparison chart makes it quick and easy to find the exact style of pergola you are looking for. For example, you can instantly get the exact dimensions of pergolas that fit your backyard space. Alternatively, you can quickly eliminate structures that don’t fit in your budget.

Faux Cedar Pergola with Canopy

Do You Want a Portable Pergola?

If you plan on moving your shade canopy to different areas in your yard – or even different locations, look for vinyl or aluminum-framed structures. Typically, these versions weigh less and are easier to move. In addition, these materials make them super easy to clean.

On the other hand, lighter weight structures make these pergolas less sturdy, especially in windy conditions. Therefore, make sure you have them weighted down or even better, positioned near or attached to the house.

… or a DIY Pergola Kit that is a Permanent Structure

Cedar-framed pergolas have a more traditional rustic look, and they are typically designed to stay in one place year round. Buying them as prefab kits makes them easier to assemble. Plus, you can save a bunch of money if you choose to build it yourself.

By the way, these sturdier built-in wooden structures make great places to hang hammocks. They also work better for hanging grapevines or other vining plants.

… or Do You Want an Entry or Garden Pergola?

Pergolas are sometimes also confusingly referred to as trellises or garden arbors or even gazebos. What’s really what? It depends who you talk to, right?

Anyway, if you are searching for an entrance structure or smaller pergola trellis kits, check out the Dura Trel Wellington Arbor in white PVC vinyl. It’s cheap and only costs about $160.

… or an Octagonal “Pergola”?

On the other hand, if you want an octagonal pergola/gazebo, you can also buy that as a prefab kit too. Who knew?

Octagonal Pergola Gazebo with Soft Top and Mosquito Netting

This model comes with a solid roof and open sides. You’ll need to purchase a floor kit separately, if you want one. It costs about $2,500, which is on the lower end of the hardwood styles.

However, you can save about $2,000 by getting the Sunjoy Softtop Gazebo (with netting!). Actually, I think this is the best price on a cool-looking oversized gazebo that I have seen this year. Talk about an inviting outdoor living room!

The assembled structure measures 142″ long x 118″ wide x 115″ tall, and the unit only weighs approximately 85 lbs. Faster to put together than a traditional gazebo – and movable too. =)
